Since the last update a moderate amount of stuff has happened: a day at Vitam Parc (an indoor/outdoor water park) with the kids, birthday celebrations, hiking in the Jura, biking in the Jura (man it’s hilly!) and lots of badminton and ping-pong. Oh yeah, and I work from time to time as well.
It might sound like life here is “all fun and games”, and that’s absolutely correct. Including skateboarding in the house, playing Uno after dinner, and usually-someone-gets-hurt ping-pong/soccer in the basement. It’s a pretty rough life here, or as my HM said to me as I was tanning and sketching yesterday “C’est trop dur ici, non?”. Shortly thereafter she and I invaded the neighbor’s pool since ours (I can say ours, right?) is not yet complete.
While life here is fun, new and welcoming, there are some difficult days and some lonely hours. While I have made a few friends, there is no replacing the ones you’ve had for so many years. The ones that have known you through many ups and downs, stood by you during the more embarrassing moments, and also celebrated the good times and advances. Man, I miss my friends. FaceTime and iMessage have, however, been helpful in keeping in touch. Along the same lines, while the family I’m working for and living with are kind beyond imaginable, nothing can ever replace your own family. Ever. My best friend here is Griffin, the dog. Even he, whom I walk nearly every day and get hugs and kisses from, just isn’t the same as my golden boy, Rams back home. And my kitty, of course. Damn, sorry, you guys must all be tired of reading about me missing my animals!
Enough of that sentimental stuff, here are some photos I’ve taken recently, including a couple from a visit to Yvoire, France. We took the boat across Lac Leman from Nyon, Switzerland to the medieval town. It was gorgeous. I also hiked up to Le Chapel near Vesancy in France, where there are stunning views of the mountains and a cute 200 year old church.
Thanks for reading, stay tuned for a “day in the life” post coming soon!
