Yesterday was World Suicide Prevention Day 2014. It is a day of education, support, and remembrance. This is a cause dear to my heart, as I have lost a special person from suicide. In order to raise awareness for mental health and thus suicide prevention resources, I choose to partake in the IASP’s “Cycle Around the Globe” event.
I rode 40km yesterday in memory of my friend and in hopes of de-stigmatizing mental health diseases and suicide. I created a fundraising page to raise funds for the Canadian Association of Suicide Prevention. This organization does outstanding work within Canada to help in crisis situations, public education and provided resources and conferences.
I am grateful for the support of my family and friends during this challenge. I am happy to announce that more than $600 dollars were raised! Thank you to all those that contributed to a great cause, and for sharing my challenge and thus reducing stigmas surrounding depression.
